We are a foster based rescue, which means that none of our dogs are placed into shelters. Instead, they are placed into loving homes. Foster homes allow us to get to know the dogs better in an ideal home situation, allowing us to find them their perfect forever home. Unfortunately, this also limits how many dogs we can rescue because we can only rescue as many dogs as we have foster homes for. So we greatly appreciate your interest in fostering!
To become a foster, we check references and do a home visit, meaning we visit your house to meet you and see where the dog(s) will be staying. We do the same for anyone interested in adopting. So what does a foster parent do? Lots! Their job is very important. It is filled with smiles, kisses and cuddling, but it isn't always easy. Foster parents must be dedicated to their foster dog. They must be loving, patient, caring, understanding and kind. Most of the dogs we rescue have had it rough and we know very little or nothing of their past. Many of our rescue dogs have never been inside a loving home and will more than likely not have any training. Some dogs may need to be given medication. Foster parents tend to know their dog better than us here at Ace's Waggin. So to help us out, it's very important that you provide pictures and updates about your dog. What you learn about your foster dog is what helps us place them in their perfect, forever home. The benefits of fostering far outweigh the tough moments. For one, you saved a dog! Without a foster home to place a dog in, we are unable to rescue that dog. And not only is it life saving for the dog, but it's free for you too. Ace's Waggin pays for the vet work, food and provides a kennel. Fosters may be asked to help with transporting the dog if possible and are required to love and care for the dog as if it was their own. It's that simple. Some dogs are in foster care for a few days and others for months. The time depends on many things, such as the health of the dog and finding them their perfect home. Knowing that our dogs are placed into foster homes who will provide them with a safe and healthy home until their forever home is found, regardless of how long it takes, is very important to us. Reliable foster parents are what makes Ace's Waggin successful. We are a new rescue and are currently working on filing for our 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, which we hope to have completed soon. How does our status affect a foster parent? This means that right now things are not tax deductible. When people foster dogs, certain items become tax deductible. More information will be provided once we have the nonprofit status. We truly hope you will become a foster parent. Your time and dedication is greatly appreciated. From everyone here at Ace's Waggin, thank you!
